Mushrooms and your health.

by Herbs, Etc.

Mushrooms are fungi.

They grow underground and then sprout the fruiting body.

Mushrooms provide us with protein, carbohydrate and dietary fiber. They are also rich in minerals and vitamins, including B2, B3, Folate and B5. When exposed to sunlight or UV light, mushrooms make Vitamin D – another helpful vitamin!

Other than being a culinary ingredient – and often swapped for meat in recipes – mushrooms have for hundreds of years been used as a potent ingredient in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Research suggests that mushrooms promote cardiovascular, gut and immune health.

Some well-known medicinal mushrooms include, Maitake, Reishi and Shiitake.
