Movement and the lymphatic system
Our bodies have three times more lymph fluid than blood, yet it does not have an organ to pump it. Our lymph system relies on our movement, on the pumping action to help it transport toxins into the blood before they are detoxified by our livers. That’s why exercise is so important.
Whether you walk, run, bike, lift weights or practice yoga, all these create movement in our bodies and pumps lymph fluid through our lymphatic system. It parallels the cardiovascular system, and is unique in that it is a one-way system that returns lymph fluid back to the cardiovascular system that works with our “end” organs such as kidney, liver, colon, skin and the lungs.
