Digestive health any time of the year.
Sometimes the holidays bring a bit of upset. Digestive upset, that is.
All the different foods we eat, including the amount, often leaves our digestive system wanting.
How to give your digestive system what it wants and needs?
1. Eat prebiotics.
Prebiotics are plant fiber found in fruits and vegetables that are complex carbohydrates. You’ll find prebiotics in tomatoes, artichokes, bananas, asparagus, onions, garlic and oats. The prebiotic fiber isn’t digestible, making it food for probiotics.
2. Eat probiotics.
Probiotics contain live organisms, often bacteria strains, that add to the health of your gut. Probiotics are found in fermented foods, such as kefir, kimchi, kombucha, miso, live-cultured yogurt, tempeh and sauerkraut.
3. Add lemon juice.
Wherever you are, you can add lemon juice to your water. Some research shows that drinking lemon water before a meal can help with digestion.
During the holidays, and any day, you can use these tips to better digestive health.
